"What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore..." ~ Langston Hughes
What happened to your dreams? When did you let them go? Why did you decide they weren't worth pursuing? You say you don't know but I believe you do. You just aren't willing to admit it. I understand. I totally get it. Many of us let go of our dreams because the people we love most find no value in them. They tell us we're wasting our time so we give up on our dreams, do as we're told and focus on more "practical" and "realistic" pursuits.
Who we are is at the core of the dreams we have for our lives. When we give up our dreams we are closing off a part of ourselves. We are no longer living fully or authentically. We owe it to ourselves and the world to live with authenticity because our stories need to be told. No one can tell your story better than you can and you shouldn't allow anyone to edit your story to fit a narrative they have created for you.
Though you think you have forgotten, your dreams are still there - hidden away, protected and guarded by your heart. It's time for you to pull them out, dust them off, feed and nurture them. Let them grow, the bigger the better. Dream big then work your ass off to make them a reality. Set goals, accomplish them then set more. Repeat. It's never too late to begin living your truth.
